Nepal is a land of diverse topography, climate, ethnicity and biodiversity. Within an average breadth of about 150 km, the altitude varies from 60 meter above sea level to the world's highest peak Mount Sagarmatha scaling 8848 km it has three large river basins namely Koshi in the east, Narayani in the central and Karnali in the west.

Betrawati, Indrawati, Karnali, Trisuli and Koshi are some of the major rivers where fishing and angling is possible. In some of River fishing are strictly prohibited but while fishing, fisherman should not forget to take care of some other aquatic species such as fresh water dolphins, Crocodiles etc in the Koshi, Rapti and Narayani River system.

Major Rivers where Fishing in Nepal

1. Karnali River Fishing .......12 to 15 days.

 Karnali River is endowed with beautiful rivers that are good fishing ground for the angling enthusiast. Many varieties of fish are found in Karnali River . This is very popular fishing spots are Karnali, Babai valley in the Royal Bardia National Park, Chitwan, Dolalghat and lakes of Pokhara. Among the many fishes found here, the Golden Mahseer is prized above the others. Karnali is the ideal place for Mahseer fishing. The best season to go fishing is before or after the monsoon i.e. from February till April and from October till November when fishes go upstream for spawning and consume less food.

2. Seti Karnali River Fishing ....10 to 15 days

3. Bheri River Fishing ............6 to 8 days

Fishing in the Bheri River with rafting support is unique in its own, very hard to justify in words. This a river that is less frequented and known to contain a variety of big catches. The river with its tributaries from the mighty Himalayan heights from Dolpo region is a fishing paradise. In spite of its richness of flow with varied water temperature and underwater current, this is almost a migratory path for many fresh water fishes yet least explored in term of angling in Nepal. Fishing in this Bheri River starts from Ramnaghat a tributary junction of the Thuli and Sani rivers. It’s a long journey to get to the point of start from Kathmandu as it lies in the far flung area of western part of Nepal. A trip that compensates all terms of difficulties.

4.Fishing in Ankhu Khola (Netrawati) ....5 days

Ankhu Khola is yet another excellent destination for the subtle sport of fishing. It lies north in the Ganesh Himal region. You drive from Kathmandu to Khahare Bazaar which takes about six hours.

5. Fishing in Budi Gandaki ......5 days

Half way between Kathmandu and Pokhara Budhi Gandaki is a mystery river! Like the Marsyangdi, the Budhi Gandaki rises wholly in Nepal and drains the Eastern slopes of Manaslu and Ganesh Himal before flowing south through a steep - sided valley to join the Trisuli River upstream of Mugling.

Fishing here will certainly provide you a unique experience. At the same time you can observe typical Nepali villages, good mountain views and a little - traveled but easy river. The different varieties of fish can be seen frolicking in the water. The journey starts from Kathmandu to Arughat Bazaar and the desire to catch fish takes you to Arket Bazaar. 7. Babai River Fishing ...........6 to 10 days

Babai River is endowed with beautiful rivers that are good fishing ground in west of Nepal. Many varieties of fish are found in Babai River . This is very popular fishing spots Babai valley in the Royal Bardia National Park.

8. Sunkoshi River Fishing.......1 to 15 days

       The Sunkoshi river consists- beautiful open valley, amazing waterfalls, clean sandy beaches, dense forest and colorful remote cultural villages attract to explore whitewater seekers and challenge its grate rapids once. Dolalghat, east of the valley on the Kodari Highway, is easily accessible from the city - a bus ride from the Old Bus Park in Ratna Park early morning and back through the local buses by evening. You can encounter Nepali holidaymakers and the locals on the lookout for local variety of Asla and Katla, the former a kind of trout and the latter a carp.
